FrançaisAcceptable Use
Updated September 19, 2026
What EvenHearth may and may not be used for. It applies to everyone with access, Account holders and Guests alike.
The general rule
Use EvenHearth to keep track of money between people who have agreed to keep track of money together. Do not use it to do something to somebody who has not.
Receipts, and other people's information
A receipt is a photograph, and a photograph of a till roll can carry more than a total: the last four digits of a card, a pharmacy line item, a name, an address. When you upload one you are responsible for what is in it.
Do not upload a receipt or document that:
- belongs to somebody who would object to the people in this household seeing it;
- reveals another person's health, medication, or anything else about them that they have not agreed to share here;
- you obtained without permission, or that is not yours to hold.
Everyone in a household can see every shared entry and its receipt. A receipt on an entry marked personal is seen only by you and whoever paid for it, and one in a private trip only by the people on that trip. If something should not be seen by the people you share a ledger with, record the amount and leave the photograph out.
We do not screen your photos, so this part is up to you.
Invitations and Reserved Seats
An invitation sends a message to a real address. A Reserved Seat creates a record naming a real person before they have agreed to anything. Use both with care.
- Invite people who are expecting it. Do not use invitations to contact somebody who has told you not to, or to send anyone a message that is not an invitation.
- Only add a person by name if they are genuinely part of the household's money. A Seat naming somebody who has nothing to do with it is a record about them that they never asked for.
- Remove a Seat when the person is no longer involved, and remove Contacts you no longer need.
Repeated invitations to an address that never accepts, or that asks you to stop, are misuse of the invitation system regardless of intent.
Access that is not yours
Whoever holds an Access Link can claim the Seat it names. Do not use one that was not given to you, do not pass one on, and tell us if you receive one you were not expecting.
Do not attempt to reach a household, venture or Seat you were not invited to, and do not use somebody else's credentials, including those of a person who has left the household.
Fair use of the service
Receipt reading has limits that ordinary household use never reaches. To keep it that way:
- Do not use the service through scripts, scrapers or automated clients. There is no public API and the interface is not one.
- Do not upload receipts in bulk to test capacity, benchmark the reader, or process a business's books through a household plan.
- Do not create accounts or households to get around a limit, a quota, or a decision we have made about your access.
- Do not probe, scan or attempt to interfere with the service, and do not try to get at data belonging to anyone else.
If you find a security problem, please tell us. See Security.
Problem reports
Reporting a problem is a privilege that comes with an Account. Report what is real, once, in your own words, about things you were allowed to reach. Do not flood the form, invent problems to earn a badge or a bigger allowance, put other people's details in a report, file by script, or open a second Account to get around a limit or a ban.
Terms of Service §7.1 defines misuse of reporting and what can happen because of it, up to closing your Account and deleting its information. Maliko Labs Inc. decides whether something is misuse.
Unlawful and harmful use
Do not use EvenHearth to break the law, to launder money, to defraud somebody, or to harass, threaten or control another person. A shared ledger can be used to coerce someone; if that is happening to you, the export in Settings will give you a copy of the record, and you can leave a household without the other members' permission.
What we may do about it
If we believe this policy is being broken we may remove the content, suspend or end the access involved, and where somebody is at risk or the law requires it, report it.
We will tell you what happened and why, unless telling you would put somebody else at risk or we are not allowed to. Where we can, we will ask you first.
Suspending access is not deleting a ledger. Other members of a household keep their records, and we will not destroy shared financial history to enforce this policy against one person.
Reporting something
To report misuse, a receipt containing your information, or an invitation you did not want, write to support@maliko.ca. Tell us what you saw and where; you do not need an account to report something.
